Who we are:
Lydia Place is a nonprofit, community-based agency serving homeless women and their children. Founded in 1989, Lydia Place is an active participant in our community's effort to develop a continuum of care under the leadership of the Whatcom County Homeless Coalition. What we do:- Six month transitional housing
- Twelve month follow-up program
- Individual goal setting and case management
- Weekly monitoring of individual goals
- Life skills training (parenting, budgeting, communication, problem solving, nutrition, health, and safety)
- Individual budget assistance
- Therapeutic Children's Program
- Education and/or employment support and advocacy
- Community resource referrals
- Advocacy and accompaniment services
It works:As we celebrate our 22nd year, we are proud to say that 304 families have found safe and supportive shelter at Lydia Place. 95% of the 18 families that participated in the Follow-up Program, in 2006, 2007 and 2008 continue to maintain their permanent housing. As a member of Whatcom County’s continuum of care, each year Lydia Place provides:
- Safe housing for 14-24 Women and 24-36 children
- 5,500—5,700 bed nights
- 750 hours of case management
- 900 hours of life-skills training
- 1,200 hours of the children's therapeutic group
