Klipsun Magazine – March 15, 2015:

After a year of planning, Lydia Place started a new program at the end of January 2015 called the Family Intervention Initiative. They’ve hired two people — a child therapist and a family intervention specialist/parenting educator — to provide flexible in-home support, therapy and resources for parents and children.

Lydia Place serves about 150 households at any given time. One hundred of those households have children.

Bellingham Herald – December 26, 2014:

Arla Fowler had never been one to spend time shopping at garage sales, church rummage sales or thrift stores.

Until she reached her mid-60s, that is. That’s when Fowler, a retired elementary school teacher and librarian, began to volunteer at Wise Buys, the downtown Bellingham thrift store affiliated with Lydia Place.

Now, in her last month as volunteer manager of Wise Buys — although she will continue as a volunteer worker — she loves to spot, well, a wise buy at the store. There are literally thousands of them.

Lydia Place Volunteer

Volunteer this Summer at Lydia Place!

Office & Admin

We have continuous projects with varying needs of time and attention, so whatever time you are able to commit, we have a task for you!

Activities include: Room re-organizing, filing, shed organization, mailings, data entry, creating folders, stuffing envelopes, and reorganizing event materials. Additional activities can vary based on the needs of the office and staff.

THP Support

The main goal of the client support staff is to create a safe, comfortable, and friendly environment for the clients and be a positive role model. Activities depend on the skills and interests of the volunteer and may include playing with the children, cooking, baking, gardening, or just providing a listening ear for clients in the Transitional Housing Program.

One Time Shed Clean-Up

We are organizing a shed clean-up in July to clean, clear and get organized! This is a great activity for service groups or volunteer committees.

Windermere Community Service Day

The Whatcom Windermere Real Estate and Property Management team chose Lydia Place as their community project site for 2014. We were overjoyed at being selected and as over eighty amazing Whatcom County professionals traded their business attire for gardening clothes and computers for weed wackers – their enthusiasm and joy in the project was contagious!
