Side by Side

We’re dreaming up a new volunteer program that matches community members with Lydia Place families to provide connection and support outside of housing services.

Currently, we are in the pilot phase of this project and will begin with a small group of clients and volunteers winter of 2026.

Purpose of Program

Help close the social isolation gap!

Social isolation is one of the biggest challenges for families experiencing and recovering from homelessness.
Families often lack natural supports - such as grandparents, friends, chosen family, & community connections.
Without a strong social network, the day to day can become much more difficult.
Tasks like a ride to the grocery store, household chores, or having someone to talk to can feel out of reach.

Goals

How will this help?

Families can begin, or continue, to build multi-dimensional support through connecting to caring community members.
Inspire clients to build the community they want to be a part of.
Decrease parent stress and overwhelm by helping with daily tasks.
As the parent feels more relaxed or positive about their life, the whole family benefits!

Plans

How you get involved!

You will be asked to provide a friendly, supportive, and consistent presence in the life of a parent.
Tasks will be determined by mutual agreements between you and the client.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours per week, for one year.
Monthly meetings with direct service staff and other volunteers for support.

We so excited to connect you to our lovely volunteers!

We are starting the pilot this winter and will hopefully be expanding this program to include more clients soon! Once the program is launched, we will be inviting all case managers, parents support specialists, and mental health clinicians to talk with clients about participating.
