POSITION TITLE: FINANCE DIRECTOR

SALARY RANGE: Level 12  – $82,818, -$99,781/annually, exempt

Candidate offers consider experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
Entry salary typically in the first third of the range.

BENEFITS PACKAGE: Paid time off for this position includes up to 4 weekly wellness hours, 19 days of PTO in the first year of employment (PTO includes sick time), and 13 paid holidays per year. Other benefits include agency-sponsored medical/dental insurance (current premium covered at rate of 100% for the employee), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), premium Calm meditation app subscription, and employer retirement plan contribution (current rate of 3%) after first year of employment. POSITION SUMMARY: The Finance Director is responsible for understanding the economic infrastructure of the organization and working closely with the Executive Director providing fiscal guidance and collaboration. The Finance Director directly supports the Finance Manager and Accounting Coordinator by overseeing day to day accounting functions as well as providing detailed financial reporting, implementing the annual budgetary process, annual audit preparation and agency filings, and overseeing all financial records.

Lydia Place has an operating budget in excess of $6,000,000 and a staff averaging 50 individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Five years progressive experience in financial management
  • Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Proficiency with PC/Windows, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and cloud-based software
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people
  • Two years of experience providing direct supervision of staff
  • Completion of background investigation that includes social security verification, professional reference checks, and a federal criminal background investigation
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and proof of insurance required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), and/or previous experience in an equivalent role in the nonprofit sector
  • Experience in non-profit accounting and finance management
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct accounting system
  • Experience with financial management of governmental grants and contracts
  • Five years of experience providing direct supervision of staff
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Russian, or Sign Language preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform accounting functions and carry out fiscal operations with great attention to detail, according to a fund-based, accrual accounting system to conform to GAAP
  • Ensure compliance with agency finance policies; monitor and enforce internal controls
  • Provide support to the Executive Director and Finance Committee in forecasting financial needs and stability
  • Budgets/Reporting
    • Lead the process to prepare the annual agency operational budget and subsequent program budgets
    • Ensure Program Managers and Directors have access to regular financial information and reports as needed to make timely decisions
    • Create and maintain various Capital Project budgets
    • Monitor spending as it relates to current year budgets, providing monthly reports to the Executive Director and Treasurer of the Board of Directors
    • Support Program Managers and Directors by providing necessary financial information to various funders in application and reporting processes
  • Cash Management
    • Monitor and project cash flow as needed
    • Responsible for recording revenue and receipts from various sources
    • Perform bank reconciliations
    • Ensure timely bank deposits and record-keeping
  • Annual reporting
    • Maintain master fixed asset/depreciation schedule
    • Prepare records and reports for the agency’s annual audit (including single audit) and Form 990
    • Ensure timely and accurate annual filings and reports including but not limited to: W-2’s, 1099, Form 5500-SF for the agency-sponsored retirement plan, Secretary of State, WBARS, and Property Tax Exemptions
  • Maintain and update agency cost allocation plan
  • Oversee appropriate and secure storage of all financial records

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISION:

  • Provide direct supervision and support of the Finance Manager and Accounting Coordinator including hiring, training, annual evaluations/job performance feedback, and terminations as necessary
    • Oversee payroll systems administration (Sage Intacct and Bamboo HR) including accurate filing of all federal and state payroll tax reports and monthly contributions to agency-sponsored retirement plan
    • Oversee billing and financial monitoring of government and other contracts, federal funding, restricted grant funding and related compliance
    • Oversee Accounts Receivable from rental, donor, and event income ensuring recording to accurate revenue accounts
    • Oversee Accounts Payable processes and ensure accurate recording of documentation and expense accounts
  • Demonstrate leadership in bi-monthly Finance Committee and Board of Directors meetings including preparing and discussing reports for meetings as needed, support in creating agendas, making recommendations, and fulfilling other duties as necessary
  • Collaborate with the implementation of agency multi-year strategic plan
  • Recommend financial resolutions, policy changes, etc., where appropriate

ADMINISTRATIVE AND OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Keep all files and systems in appropriate and organized order and in a manner that other management staff can retrieve data or files as needed.
  • Manage agency records and financial archives for required time frame
  • Adhere to current and future standards and ‘statements of work’ pertaining to this position as required by current and future agency contracts.
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with employee and client data and electronic protected health information (ePHI) in all circumstances, except those required by law
